Amazon Egypt is expanding its food security initiatives this Ramadan through strengthened collaborations with Egyptian Food Bank and Share a Smile Foundation. Since launching these programs, Amazon Egypt has contributed to more than 4.3 million meals and is scaling its impact this holy month through the newly launched “Tekkeyet el Mahrousa” mobile kitchen and the continuation of the long-running “Iftar on Wheels” program, supported by employee volunteers and operational capabilities.
Omar Elsahy, General Manager of Amazon Egypt, said: “Ramadan is a time that reinforces the responsibility we all share toward our communities. When our employees volunteer to pack and distribute meals, they are taking direct action to support families across Egypt. Through our collaborations with the Egyptian Food Bank and Share a Smile Foundation, we are able to translate these efforts into tangible support for those who need it most.”
“Tekkeyet el Mahrousa” Initiative
Amazon Egypt is expanding its collaboration with the Egyptian Food Bank through the “Tekkeyet el Mahrousa” initiative, a mobile kitchen providing hot, high-quality meals to families facing food insecurity across Egypt. The co-branded mobile kitchen reaches six underserved neighborhoods in Cairo, distributing 11,000 meals. The mobile kitchen enables direct delivery to targeted communities, ensuring timely access to nutritious meals. Mohsen Sarhan, Chief Executive Officer of the Egyptian Food Bank, said: “We are delighted to deepen our collaboration with Amazon Egypt through the ‘Tekkeyet el Mahrousa’ initiative. By combining our expertise in providing food assistance to families in need with Amazon’s efforts and volunteer network, we can maximize our impact. Through the mobile kitchen, we provide food assistance directly to underserved neighborhoods across Cairo, ensuring more Egyptian families can observe Ramadan with access to nutritious meals.”
“Iftar on Wheels” Program
Amazon Egypt continues its long-term “Iftar on Wheels” program in collaboration with Share a Smile Foundation, reaffirming its contribution to supporting local communities during the holy month of Ramadan. The program aims to contribute to 400,000 meals to families in need across Egypt this Ramadan. Since its inception, “Iftar on Wheels” has contributed to more than 4.3 million meals, reaching hundreds of thousands of beneficiaries nationwide. The program leverages Amazon Egypt’s operational and logistical capabilities with the active participation of its employees, who volunteer annually to support meal preparation efforts. Nagwa El Assy, Founder of Share a Smile Foundation, said: “For years, ‘Iftar on Wheels’ has been about more than just distributing meals; it’s about bringing hope and dignity to families during Ramadan. Amazon’s collaboration has enabled us to significantly scale this mission, allowing us to reach even more communities across Egypt this year. What truly inspires us is seeing Amazon employees volunteer alongside us, embodying the spirit of giving that defines Ramadan. Together, we are ensuring that no family goes without food during this blessed month.”
Amazon.eg’s Ramadan Box
As part of its Ramadan community initiatives, Amazon.eg has launched its annual Ramadan Box, a curated 6.3 kg package of essential groceries including rice, sugar, cooking oil, lentils, ghee, pasta, fava beans, and tea, priced at EGP 384. Customers can choose to send the Ramadan Box to a charity organization of their choice or directly to families in need. This year, Amazon Egypt is contributing more than 3,000 kilograms of Ramadan Boxes to Tawasol Organization, supporting 480 families in Istabl Antar. Amazon Egypt is also encouraging customers to not save on
generosity this Ramadan through a social media challenge designed to amplify acts of kindness and inspire donations of Ramadan Boxes to those in need.
Amazon is driven by the belief that no one should go hungry, and that collective action can help expand access to meals for communities in need. Nadine Abouelgheit, Regional Volunteering Product Manager, Amazon Community Impact, said: “Our Ramadan initiatives reflect Amazon’s efforts to supporting communities across Egypt through meaningful action. By collaborating with trusted organizations such as the Egyptian Food Bank and Share a Smile Foundation, we are able to extend our reach to families who need support most. The enthusiasm and dedication of our employee volunteers is at the heart of these efforts and continues to strengthen Amazon’s connection with the communities we serve.”
As part of its broader commitment to addressing food insecurity, Amazon engages employees in community support initiatives throughout the year, reinforcing its long-term dedication to the communities where it operates.
