Coca-Cola Partners with the Ministry of Environment to Support Cleanliness in Giza and Qalyubia Governorates

Coca-Cola in Egypt announced its partnership with the Waste Management Regulatory Authority (WMRA), affiliated with the Ministry of Environment, to launch a solid waste collection initiative in Giza and Qalyubia Governorates. The project comes within the framework of community contribution and support for non-profit civil society organizations in waste removal and environmental conservation. This project is part of the company’s efforts with the Ministry of Environment, in coordination with the Waste Management Regulatory Authority (WMRA) and the Chief Engineering Officer (CEO) in this regard. As part of this partnership, Coca-Cola will provide tricycles to waste collectors under the supervision of the Waste Management Regulatory Authority and relevant local authorities. The various wastes will be collected in the most affected areas in Qalyubia and Giza Governorates.
This partnership is also one of the company’s efforts in Egypt to achieve Coca-Cola’s global waste reduction goals. Furthermore, the project integrates the collected waste into national recycling value chains, provides employment opportunities for residents, and raises awareness about more effective waste management practices. “We are committed to helping create shared value for our business and the communities in which we operate,” said Hanna Haddad, General Manager of Coca-Cola Egypt. “We will continue to collaborate with local and global partners to expand the scope of innovative designs for such projects, explore new or improved waste collection models, invest in local infrastructure, and engage with policymakers to reduce waste.” In line with Egypt’s Vision 2030 for sustainability, this project is a model of concerted efforts between the government, civil society, and the private sector to achieve successful and distinguished environmental management. For his part,
Mr. Yasser Abdullah, Chairman of the Waste Management Regulatory Authority, emphasized: “This initiative reflects our commitment to engaging all segments and institutions of society. Through our partnership with Coca-Cola, we look forward to strengthening the national strategy for integrated waste management and creating ambitious opportunities for serious and effective community participation in addressing environmental challenges and achieving a sustainable impact.” Coca-Cola continues to focus on supporting well-designed waste collection systems to improve container collection rates for the benefit of society and the environment.
